For his heroics in the month of February in which the first three league matches were played, Otieno took home a 42 inch television courtesy of South Korean electronics behemoth LG Electronics in addition to Sh100,000 from title sponsors Sportpesa. The rest of the team received Sh50,000 for their effort in the said month.

Timothy Otieno garnered 26 points from the vote to narrowly beat AFC Leopard’s Andrew Tolowa and Muhoroni Youth’s Wycliffe Ochomo who each had 25 points while Mathare United’s on song striker Obadiah Ndege was fourth on 22 points.

Timothy Otieno scored three goals from open play in three outings for the promoted Rangers, his efforts thereby earning the team four points and helping the club to end the month perched fifth on the log. Ndege and Ochomo equally had three goals in February helping their clubs to 1st and 4th positions respectively Tolowa’s two goals had guided Leopards to second on the log.

An elated Otieno, fresh from camp with the national team vowed to press on with his improvement which have seen him rise from a national teenage tournament most valuable player in 2012 to earn his first call up in the national team this year.

“This award is testament to my improvement and I want to keep working hard to be the absolute best. It is an honour to be recognised for my efforts in the pitch. It will spur me further and encourage other players within the team to put strive for excellence.” he said

“I get enough play time at Posta so i know i have to justify my time on the pitch. My confidence has strengthened since joining this club and i hope to do better in the coming matches.

SJAK and Sportpesa used the occasion to announce the improved reward scheme which sees winning players pocket Sh100,000 as his teammates share Sh50000. Last year when the monthly award was launched, the winner only took home Sh50000 and a television set.
