Teenage midfielder Kenneth Mugambi Muguna’s remarkable journey from erstwhile unheralded Super League outfit Palos to the current fourth placed top tier side Western Stima has culminated in him winning the August Player of the month Award.

Muguna will replace the 32 inch television he recently purchased for his parents with the 43 inch LG smart television that comes with the award.

His artistry in midfield earned him national team call up and propelled his side to previously uncharted areas over the nine years in top flight. Muguna scored twice for Stima in the month of August against Ushuru and neighbors Muhoroni Youth in addition to immense contribution in other matches, emerging the best out of four shortlisted players.

Kenneth Mugambi becomes the seventh recipient of the award this year, following the likes of Tomothy Otieno of Posta Rangers, Mohamed Sharif of Bandari, Wycliffe Ochomo of Muhoroni Youth, Khalid Aucho formerly of Gor Mahia and Hillary Echesa of Chemelil Sugar who won in previous months.

Muguna gets Sh100,000 from sponsors Sportpesa in addition to the LG television set. He prevailed, in a vote conducted by sports journalists, over other contestants in the form of Kakamega Homeboyz duo of Andrew Murunga and Sunday Mutuku with Tusker’s Allan Wanga also in the mix.

Muguna garnered 21 points to edge the free scoring Tusker forward Wanga by just three points. Sunday Mutuku was third on 13 points while Murunga came fourth on eight points. Muguna became just the second western Stima player to bag the gong since it’s inception last year after Gabriel Andika – the only goalkeeper to have won it – was voted in 2015.

The jubilant youngster could not hide is joy at winning. “This award is every player’s dream and I’m happy to finally get it. I’m so happy and probably thank the club and teammates for enabling me win it. I hope it steers me towards the top.” said he

“Everyone in the house will enjoy watching the television and i feel encouraged to win bigger things.”

“It has not been easy over the days but I thank God for the blessing.”

Stima coach Henry Omino hailed the youngster owing to the respectable display he has put in his debut season.

“I’m happy our faith in signing him has payed off. He’s been phenomenal and it’s evident in the assists, goals and general contribution for the team. ” said the veteran nicknamed Zagallo by his players.
