The year 2017 was a fruitful year for LG Eastern Africa that was marked by product launches, events and campaigns. We set out to reconnect with our numerous fans across the region and also reposition ourselves as the brand of choice for consumers when it comes to electronics and home appliances. Let’s take a look back at the highlights of 2017, the year that was!
We kicked off the year with the exiting news of the appointment of Mr. Janghoon Chung as the New Managing Director LG in charge of East and Central Africa. He took over from Mr. Taeick Son who took up a similar role in West Africa. Mr. Chung’s experience within LG spans over 20 years having held various positions including product manager for home appliance in Indonesia, Panama and Columbia.

During the month of February we held the #LifesGoodKe valentine campaign. With the tagline ‘Life is good because I met you.’ the campaign proved to be viral and awesomely fan because it helped people remember the little things about their lovers that made them fall in love. The response by our fans was overwhelming as there were over 1000 shares on Facebook and more than 60 unique tales of love written in from people still in young love, married couples, parents, friends and people who were still going strong on their long relationships. The tales were told in prose, poetry and images and they touched thousands of hearts across the country.
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program we were involved in several initiatives aimed at demonstrating our commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
We took part in a cleanup event aimed at creating awareness about the importance of taking care of our environment. The exercise was held in the month of May at the Nairobi Park where over 100 LG fans volunteered & offered their time for the initiative where they managed to collect over 50 bags of plastics and other waste material.
During the month of November we collaborated with the Blood Link Foundation & National Blood Transfusion Center to carry out a blood donation drive which is part of a worldwide CSR initiative by LG. The theme for the campaign was “Every Donor Is a Hero” and targeted LG employees and fans. The event was largely successful as over 100 Participants turned up and enthusiastically waited in-line to donate their blood for the noble cause. Leading the way amongst LG employees was our General Manager Mr. Janghoon Chung and LG EA Marketing Director Mr. Moses Marji. We anticipate holding an even bigger blood donation drive this year and we will count on your support to help us make it happen!
LG was also the main sponsor of the SJAK footballer of the month and the SJAK awards that are aimed at rewarding local talent and promoting sports activities amongst the youth in the country. Winners received various goodies from LG including TV sets, refrigerators and LG Mobile phones.
2017 was a year of promotions aimed at rewarding our fans & consumers and increasing our foothold in the electronics and home appliances markets. The promos proved to be hugely popular with consumers. Key among them was Easter’s “Easter Match” promotion, Black Friday’s “Surprise Me” campaign
This was also the year that LG introduced some of its most innovative products yet into the eastern African market, this included; the phenomenal series of Nano Cell TVs, the great sounding range of LG LOUDR Hi-Fi systems, a new line of efficient refrigerators with Inverter technology and the all powerful Twin Load Washing Machine just to mention but a few!!
In addition to the LG brand shop at Garden City, Thika Road the LG brand shop at Tulip Towers, Mpaka Road was relocated to a more strategic location at the heart of Westlands, Nairobi. Situated at Kenrail Towers the brand shop aims to meet the increasing demand for LG products by consumers living within: Westlands, Spring Valley, Lavington, Kitusuru, Mountain View Parklands and surrounding areas.
The year 2017 also marked a significant milestone for the LG online family as we achieved 500,000 followers on our Facebook page, and as the year came to a close our fans had clocked over 600,000 and counting! We want to give a big shout out to you our fans for helping us get here and we are optimistic that with your support we can get to 1 million followers this year! How about it? 🙂
