LG Electronics Eastern Africa in conjunction with the Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) has pledged to continue recognizing and supporting football talent in the country. The deal is an extension of a continued partnership between the two organizations that now enters its fifth straight year. The ceremony was carried out at LG’s Headquarters in Nairobi and was witnessed by officials from both LG and SJAK as well as sports journalist from various media houses.
The sponsorship deal will see the firm (alongside other sponsors) award the best football player of the month in addition to sponsoring other events hosted by SJAK including the KPL Football player of the year where the overall best players in the men’s & women’s leagues are expected to win several awards courtesy of LG and other corporate sponsors.
In recent years numerous players have been rewarded by LG as an incentive for their outshining football skills. This initiative is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (C.S.R) Program and is aimed at spotting, rewarding & developing young talent so as to improve the standards of football in Kenya. The deal also includes funds that will be set aside to sponsor CSR activities undertaken by the Sports journalists’ body.
Speaking on behalf of our Marketing Manager, LG Assistant Manager (Marketing and Communications) Maureen Kemunto noted that LG had observed tremendous zeal among the footballers during the League’s build-up in the last three years which was a true testament of improved morale amongst the players and a drive to excel.
She added that “it was a momentous initiative for us as we seek to build a closer connection with our consumers across Kenya, more so our shared passion for the game of football which is what drives us to shape the path of the game by boosting the players’ morale and we are once again proud to partner with SJAK as an official sponsor of the KPL footballer of the month and year”
Speaking during the event, SJAK president Chris Mbaisi noted that over the years, LG’s partnership had contributed towards a significant improvement in the caliber of players in the Kenyan Premier League by recognizing and rewarding the best players through the sponsorship deal. He affirmed his organization’s pleasure in the extension of the partnership and said that they looked forward to discovering new talent across the country as they build the profile of Kenyan football.
