Free scoring Muhoroni Youth striker Wycliffe Ochomo is the Sportpesa/ SJAK Footballer of the Month for April. The burly 23 year-old has been phenomenal for the Kisumu County-based club and earned his team seven points from his four goals during the month of April.
He netted against Bandari, Mathare United and a brace against City Stars, hauling his side to within touching distance of leaders Tusker FC. In a vote conducted by sports journalists, Ochomo beat competitors Eric Johanna of Mathare United, Jacques Tuyisenge of Gor Mahia and John Makwata of Ulinzi Stars.
The quartet had been shortlisted for the monthly gong which comes with Sh100000 and a 43 inch television set from South Korean giants LG Electronics not to mention Sh50000 for the rest of the squad. Wycliffe Ochomo garnered 32 points in the poll with the closest competitor for the gong, Johanna getting 22 points. Makwata was third with 19 points while Tuyisenge managed 17 points.
Ochomo’s exploits on the pitch saw him earn his fourth national team call-up in a bloated squad announced on Monday by head coach Stanley Okumbi. He leads the Sportpesa Premier League scorer’s log with seven goals from 12 matches played so far.
The elated striker expressed his sentiments after collecting his gong saying he’s been working extra hard this year in a bid to achieve what he’s capable of. “I knew someday I would be recognized if I worked hard enough. This year has been good for me and I thank the entire team for helping me score the goals and move the team up the table.” He said
“The national team call up show how vastly I have improved and I have to work even harder to leave a mark at that level. I trust that the good fortune will continue and I will perform even better. If I’m given a chance in the national team it would be upon me to establish a starting role.” Said the hit man
